Welcome to Lesson 3 of our journey into Remember Your Power.
Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt something was off — even before anyone said a word?
Or noticed a small change in someone’s tone that everyone else seemed to miss?
That’s not overthinking.
That’s not you being “too sensitive.”
That’s your emotional intelligence doing exactly what it’s meant to do.
Today, we’re talking about why your emotional sensitivity is actually one of your biggest strengths — especially when you know how to use it.
What is emotional intelligence
In simple terms, emotional intelligence means:
Many studies show that women naturally score higher in emotional intelligence — especially when it comes to empathy and connection.
But instead of calling this a strength, society often labels it as:
That’s a misunderstanding — not a flaw.
- Noticing what you’re feeling as it’s happening
- Knowing how to handle those feelings, instead of being controlled by them
- Sensing what others are feeling, even when they don’t say it out loud
- Using that awareness to move through conversations and relationships with clarity

But instead of calling this a strength, society often labels it as:
“too emotional,” or “too sensitive.”
That’s a misunderstanding — not a flaw.
Why emotional intelligence is a real advantage
When you learn how to work with your emotional intelligence:
Think about it:
That’s not weakness.
- You read situations more accurately than others can
- You make better decisions by combining logic and intuition
- You connect with people on a deeper, more real level
- You handle conflict with more calm and clarity
- You influence others without pushing or forcing
Think about it:
- In conversations or negotiations, you sense what really matters to people.
- In leadership, you feel the energy of a group before problems explode.
- In relationships, emotional attunement builds trust and closeness.
That’s not weakness.
That’s skill.
When sensitivity becomes overwhelming
Of course, emotional intelligence can feel heavy when it’s not balanced.
You might notice things like:
This is where yesterday’s work with dark femininity becomes so important.
True emotional intelligence isn’t about being nice all the time.
You might notice things like:
- absorbing other people’s emotions
- feeling drained after being around others
- replaying conversations in your head
- putting everyone else first, even when you’re exhausted
This is where yesterday’s work with dark femininity becomes so important.
True emotional intelligence isn’t about being nice all the time.
It’s about honoring what you feel while still having boundaries.
Work with your emotional intelligence
Here are a few simple practices you can start using right away:
1. Name what you feel
Instead of “I feel bad,” try something more specific like:
“I feel disappointed,” or “I feel anxious.”
Just naming an emotion often makes it feel lighter.
2. Pause before reacting
When emotions run high, take one slow breath before responding.
That small pause creates space for choice instead of reaction.
3. Listen to your body
Your body often knows before your mind does.
Tight jaw? Heavy chest?
Those are signals — not problems.
4. Practice conscious empathy
You can understand someone’s feelings without carrying them.
Imagine holding their emotions in your hands, not inside your body.
Your reflection for today
For the next 24 hours, check in with yourself a few times a day.
Ask yourself:
"Where do I feel it in my body?"
"Is this emotion mine — or did I pick it up from someone else?"
You can even set reminders if that helps.
Ask yourself:
"What am I feeling right now?"
"Where do I feel it in my body?"
"Is this emotion mine — or did I pick it up from someone else?"
"What might this feeling be trying to tell me?"
Just notice without judgment.
This simple practice strengthens your self-awareness, and that is the foundation of emotional intelligence.
